Welcome

Welcome to Saint Agnes! We are an 18+ modern supernatural roleplay community that takes place in the present day, in a city isolated from the rest of the United States where the supernatural and mundane live side by side. The story begins a few months after the liberation of supernatural prisoners from one of the many labs of the city's premier business UnNaturals Inc. The media claims the attack was unprompted and that the group which liberated them (The Revenants) are terrorists, saying nothing of the missing persons which were rescued.Your character, whoever (and whatever) they are, must decide which side they fall on. Will they believe the media or do they know better?

We are an 18+ COMMUNITY due to mature themes such as:
Horror Crude Language Mild Sexual Content Character Injury & Death
The genre is a balance between modern supernatural horror with some action and adventure elements, intermixed with slice-of-life and romance.WARNING: Due to the sensitive nature of the political climate within Saint Agnes, your character may be subjected to sanctions, unjust imprisonment, injury, and even death. If you are not okay with this, please do not join this group!

Where are we?

Our primary means of communication is DISCORD, but roleplaying can exist on a multitude of platforms.Alternative means include: Docs Toyhou.se DeviantartIf you have any questions or concerns regarding membership, please do not hesitate to mention them in the interest form.

  1. You MUST be 18 years or older to join the group due to the sensitive and sometimes graphic nature of the themes.

  2. Please leave politics, religious debates, and heavy topics out of the chats.

  3. This group does not tolerate racism, homophobia, or transphobia. The use of slurs will be cause for an immediate ban.

  4. If you have issue with another player, please message a Mod. Do not try and take care of the issue yourself.

  5. Bullying, baiting, passive aggressive comments, etc are not tolerated in any form within the community. You will receive one warning.

  6. All sensitive content should be kept to the correct channels. Ignoring this rule consistently will be means for a ban.

  7. Activity is judged on a case-by-case basis. Likely we will do community-wide events every month or so, where we will warn everyone of an impending check.

Roleplay rules

  1. IC is IC and OOC is OOC. Do not mix the two. A characters thoughts and feelings towards another character should in no way be held against someone.

  2. Godmoding is not tolerated. Do not assume what someone's character would or would not do in a situation without consulting them first.

  3. Each player is allowed to determine their own individual level of consent for their characters. Despite this, if your character is a dick, expect to have it treated like one.

  4. Please do not play overpowered characters. Within Saint Agnes, a single person having too much power would be means for "mysterious death".

  5. You may use NPCs, but please make sure they are 18+. Children can be mentioned in backstories, but do not use them in roleplay. We don't want to make anyone uncomfortable.

  6. Dark themes such as drug use and violence are regular features of most roleplays. If you are not comfortable with any of these themes, Saint Agnes is probably not for you.

  7. Explicit sexual content MUST be kept to private channels.

F.A.Q.

How active do I need to be?
Case-by-case basis simply means that, while we understand that everyone has their everyday lives and jobs, etc. to worry about, we ARE predominantly a roleplay server and not a social one. We are here to move plot along and enjoy our time, so if you cannot devote time to the group, then it's probably not for you!
What happens if I leave or go on hiatus?
If you inform the group that you are going to be taking a break, nothing will happen. Simply keep the mods informed on your status and if it seems like a hiatus is going to extend indefinitely, we will remove you from the group. You can come back, as long as your inactivity is announced. If you willingly leave the group, you will be able to return one time.
What if I don't want my character to die?
That's fine! Everyone is able to decide their own pre-determined consent for within the group, but understand that does not mean that you can create a badass, evil character that causes continuous strife within the community and not go punished for it. If your character behaves like a dick, then they'll be treated like one, regardless of what your rules of consent are. The rules of consent are not a shield to protect horrible, aggressive characters behind.
Do I need to keep track of my own points?
Yes! The only time anyone will check behind you is when you're ready to turn them in. So feel free to keep a log of them somewhere on your character sheet. Roleplays on the server can be converted to Google Docs and art submissions can be posted on which ever platform you prefer!
Can I make my own events/prompts?
Absolutely! In fact, we encourage this. If you'd like to work on an event for the group, please contact a Mod so that we can figure out the right time to implement it.
When will the group have openings?
We are going to keep the group population to around 25 and open it as needed. If it seems like the people within the group are active enough, we won't necessarily need to invite more.

The Story so far

It's 2022 and your character is learning that all is not as it seems. Whether they found Saint Agnes on their own or were born there, whether they are mundane or supernatural, they are awakening to the fact that the world is different from the one they thought it was.A perfect utopia for the supernatural is really just a devil in disguise. Where living out in the open and accepting who (and what) you are means suffering the injustices of political sanctions and unbalanced economics that leave the mundane richer and the supernatural impoverished.Would it not have been better to just stay in hiding?Politically divided, the city is beginning to fall into disarray as lines are drawn in the sands separating the mundane and the supernatural. The media twists news stories to paint those who stand up against tyranny as terrorists, while glorifying the work of a few as they worm their way into the very fabric of society. It's nearly impossible to stay neutral, even in a city as big and busy as Saint Agnes.

Two months ago, a seemingly random attack on one of UnNaturals many labs shakes the foundations of Saint Agnes. Even the everyday person who has no knowledge of the supernatural plight can't seem to ignore what is happening any longer. The news stories say that those injured and killed were doctors, technicians, and everyday people simply trying to live their lives and do their jobs -- but that wasn't the case at all. Those that died were supernatural prisoners and experiments that had been plucked off of the street and hidden in the depths of UnNaturals' depraved labs. Family, friends, and loved ones who had suddenly disappeared without a trace, who the authorities did not seem overly invested in finding.Your story begins when you decide what you're going to do -- will you believe the news stories, or will you take up arms and fight for what is right?

DISTRICTS

MetropolisThe bustling city center. Wide boulevards stretch between skyscrapers that overlook the Saint Agnes Cathedral, where the city's elite have built elaborate compound-like estates that seem oddly baroque compared to the cookie-cutter high rises.Midtown
Quiet and suburban, one would think that the Midtown area is the middle class safe haven, but few know of its manipulative history. Subsidized neighborhoods constructed solely for the mundane have made this area a hub of human activity -- and the economic divide could not be more obvious.
The Rookery
Crowded, dirty, and disorganized, one would think that this would be the last place someone would want to live -- but it's actually the home of most of the supernatural population of the city. Crime and drug use run rampant through this community.
Beyond the Bourn
There used to be a river that marked the edge of the city that has since dried up -- but it is still the edge. From where the Rookery ends to where the barrier marks the end of the protection zone, everything in between is considered unlivable. This is where UnNaturals' labs were built.

The Barrier

Back when Saint Agnes was first established as a supernatural safe haven, the Old Families (a group of families imbued with magic) decided to combine their abilities to make a protective "Bubble" around the city. From just the right angle, it produces a slight shimmer, but to the untrained eye it could easily look like heat waves. The people in Saint Agnes often refer to it as either The Bubble or The Barrier. It protects the city from outside eyes -- no plane, radar or satellite can locate them.Anyone who leaves Saint Agnes forgets everything about their time there -- even if that means their whole lives. All written documents are wiped clean and electronic devices fried -- any communication sent from the inside out will appear as an unknown number. There is one -- expensive -- exception. When the Bubble was created, the families who built it also created a limited number of bracelets to protect the wearer from the magic which would erase ones memories. They are all in the possession of UnNaturals Inc, who is working tirelessly to replicate them. They can be rented, of course -- for a considerable amount of money.

F.A.Q.

Is it possible for my character to leave Saint Agnes?
Not unless you're prepared for them to lose all of their memories of Saint Agnes -- regardless of what they've done to try and preserve it. There is no loophole for this other than the bracelets, of which not a single one exists outside of UnNaturals' possession.
What kind of sanctions exist on the supernatural?
They are barred from purchasing homes in Midtown and expensive apartments in the Metro, even if they have the money for it. They are not protected from prejudices within the community. It can be assumed that for every school, hospital, or business that welcomes the supernatural, there are 3 that openly do not. All under the guise of protecting the mundane.
How is Saint Agnes powered?
Considering the amount of wind and sun available in the desert, there is no shortage of energy. Prior to the introduction of these green energy sources (in the 1960s-70s), energy was sourced from the river which ran along the edge of the Rookery. It has since dried up.
Where does Saint Agnes get its water?
Living in the desert makes water a difficult topic, but the community gets by. Apart from rain barrels and collection devices, there are also trains which bring resources into the city, owned by UnNaturals.
What about life outside of the city?
Everything that happens in the real world (or in game, in other parts of the world) can be known and referenced during roleplay. We try not to linger on troubling circumstances (like natural disasters and the pandemic) to avoid making people uncomfortable, but they can be referenced.
What about Covid-19?
Considering its isolation from the rest of the United States, we are going to assume that it never happened in Saint Agnes. They remained safe within their Bubble.
